a sea with great ships and sharks,
ice-breakers, tankers and whales.
and there were islands,
ports of call with naught but vast distances between.

and then a great white shark

in the days preceding to signify
that they would die.
a million years from now,
adrift,
fur-lined bodies,
flippers

stream-lined faces
all the better for catching
fish.
