at this stage in the game
(a bit too late, really),
we've come to realize that those fires
did not have their intended effect.
lost on a public
uninterested or scared,
i really didn't think this would be
such a mess.
whether it's a war of
politics or propaganda,
we all end up in jail.
hung by our own hands,
at times.
at others, by another's.
who to trust?
who do you love?
who loves you?
the peasants are coming,
they're bringing axes,
something terrible is going to happen.
whether it's a war of
propaganda or politics,
we all end up in jail.
hung by our own hands,
at times.
at others, by another's.
and if you find yourself
enraptured, held captive by
the vulgar flattery or empty charm,
of those petty little pricks falling
down all around you,
you really only have yourself to blame.

there was an ocean,
a sea with great ships and sharks,
ice-breakers, tankers and whales.
and there were islands,
ports of call with naught but vast distances between.
'at five knots we'll not get far fast'
not that it matters much now.
thrown into the ocean,
it was a rage, it was a tempest.
and then a great white shark
came along and it ate mary hepburn,
and it ate the captain,
who both had stars before their names
in the days preceding to signify
that they would die.
a million years from now,
adrift,
fur-lined bodies,
flippers
and no arms,
stream-lined faces
all the better for catching
fish.

take off your long-johns
they're not sexy anyway.
let me remove your slippers and
put them down where we lay.
with the honk of the geese
and the cold wet of the clay,
the mud between your toes gets
spread around where we play.
spring has sprung and i
sprang forth from my core.
i'm having fun and i hope that
you're not bored.
corn stalks are sprouting
straight up-right, strong and true.
rising up to meet the sun
for the benefit of you.
start cleaning up your bushes,
but if you don't oh i won't mind.
it just shades out your flowers
and makes them hard to find.
spring has sprung and i
sprang forth from my core.
it's getting hot can we open
your back door?
let's get together with our friends
so we can spread our seeds
and watch each other bloom.
my clothes are wet from splashing
in the puddles and the rain.
i went inside to look for you
my search was not in vain.
oh i was so excited when i noticed
that you came out of the earth
and greeted me
with a smile once again.
spring has sprung and i
sprang forth from my core.
why haven't we all done this
stuff before?
spring has sprung and i
sprang forth from my core.
winter's why, because it
was so damn cold.
